Product Histories

COMPUTER

My first computer's
1977 control data terminal.

New announcements every month
promised the "stars" and profits.

The 1978 Atari 400 and Dorsett software
worked well

The early versions of Franklins
were contained in a wooden box.

Later a metal case would be
among the exciting events.

The Epson company was the leader
in WYSIWYG and laptop portables.

We offered free classes
to the public.

For two years we had a big classroom
in the center of the Denver Coliseum.

Audiences came to our stores
by the thousands
to hear the latest gossip
and product announcements.

The years of computer assembly
went fast.

We started assembling
miscellaneous computer parts
that didn't work well.

Many sets of parts were combined
and tested.

Epson computers worked well.

They gave way to back door
gray market sales of IBM's.

A Taiwanese manufacturer
of motherboards
allowed us to get in the clone
manufacturing business.

Every week was a race
for more compatibility with IBM's.

We grew expecting more profits.

Paying out bills allowed us
to buy millions of dollars
worth of parts on credit.

It was scary to owe so much
and net so little.

Growth was fun.

A lack of profits made me
stop after 17 years.

It was a relief to stop
and pay the last of the bills.

Life has been much simpler.

I've had a lot more time to write
for the internet.

STRICT TIMING

Children love predictability.

Strict Timing ritualizes
the start and ending of classes.

Variety unsettles them.

Our afternoon activities
are less predictable
and have more difficulties.

My awareness and memories start
in the 1934 depression.

PRODUCTS 1989 ACCELERATED THINKING

Accelerated Thinking is the product
of a compulsion.

Peterson was compelled by a vision
that we all can be synergistic learners.

That later in life we can become
contributors to the tolerance
and understanding
of our society and culture.

GUARANTEED EDUCATION

Carl Peterson has spent
most of his life as a manufacturer
of products:
printing,
building,
frosting mixes,
and computers.

Part time since 1964,
he has been manufacturing
successful readers,
writers and High School graduates.

Perhaps his schools have been successful
because he was accustomed
to manufacturing quality control
and manufacturing standards.

Since 1964 almost all of my courses
and computer products
have been guaranteed to work
or money back.

The Guarantee was offered to prove
to the customer we would stand behind our work.

We saved ourselves a lot of grief
by being liberal with refunds
when customers were unsatisfied.

We had the satisfaction of not having
to question our ethical practices.

The learning center film was shown
over 500,000 times in 10 years.

TOUGH TALK
FOR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS

Statement by Grandfather,
Carl Peterson.

"Grandparents MUST insist
on Nature's Cradle usage
for the health
of their children
and future generations".

Questions and Answers
from Grandfather,
Carl Peterson.

Q. Why did you start
Accelerated Computer Stores?

A. To share the unique
teaching abilities
of computer software used
in our schools
with the Public Schools and parents.

Since 1982
I have sponsored countless free
word processing classes because
I felt it was an essential part
of survival in the computer age.

Q. What got Accelerated Computer
Stores and Schools
into child development
with baby cradles?

I've been extremely interested
in children's development
and specifically,
my children's development.

In 1964 I started Accelerated Schools
to make sure my children
would get a good pre-school start.
---------------------------------------

THE RESULTS

Over 100,000 adults and children
have successfully
completed my reading,
writing and other courses.

In 1980 I met
the cradle's inventor
Dr. Jim Gatts.

I respected and liked his ideas.

I wished his cradles had been available
for my children and students.

When I heard the cradles were finally
to be manufactured,

I drove
to California
to bring them
to my grand-infants.

The developmental results
of the "rental cradles"
are so superior
that I think every baby
should have this advantage.

The $600 per grand-infant rental
I paid on my VISA card
is "nothing" compared
to the advantages
they have already received.

Yes,
I'm prejudiced.

I've believed the ideas of Dr. Gatts,

I rented four cradles
for my twin grandchildren
and grandnieces.

The results are better
than 100 gifts
I could have given them.

What is your biggest concern?

The cradle is so effective
and so cheap I'm afraid
parents and grandparents
will not obtain them.

Some families won't realize
how much the cradle will do
for the infants.

(The infant can only use it
for the first four months of life.

After that the opportunity
is gone forever.)

I feel the permanent life-enhancing
results of the cradle
are very important.

For this reason
I have arranged permanent financing
for a 40 year study
of each child's life.
--------------------------------------------

RESTATE THE BENEFITS

The cradle prevents problems
by soothing the infants
so they sleep longer,
are less irritable,
cry less,
and spend more time
in a satisfied state of alertness.

We think this extra alertness
will translate
into extra success
in school and life.

Parents like these babies better.

Accelerated is funded
to follow up all these cradle babies
for the next forty years
to find out how well they succeed.

Frankly we expect
that 90% of them will end up in the
top 25% if not the
top 10% of our society.

What do families receive
that cooperate
with your 40 year study.

1. A summary of study results
and findings every five years.

2. $3600 in Scholarships
and free services
from Accelerated Schools,
whether or not
the family rents a cradle.

3. Parenting classes for life
and free diagnostic testing
between age 5 and 15.

4. A complete support system
the family can hook into,
for the next 40 years.

Why does Accelerated Computer do this?

Accelerated has always donated
half its profits
to social needs.

Accelerated donates
half its profits to pay
for scholarships
at Accelerated Schools.

It hopes its example
will encourage other companies
and individuals to join it
in making tax deductible donations
for saving children's lives
and stopping school failures.

How can you get the cradle?

Call Accelerated Computer Store
and ask for the Cradle person.

We'll reserve a cradle
for the first day the child is born.

We'll schedule you
for a conference
and your first Parenting class.

Comment

There has been much publicity
about high infant death rates
in the USA.

The $600.00 rental per infant
is cheap insurance.

What are the results?

At Kaiser Hospital
in Santa Clara California
the reports from the Study
started March 1990 show
that the Natures Cradle babies:
Cry less,
Sleep more,
and are easier
for their parents
to be around.

Most important they are more alert
to their surroundings than most babies.

I and many others believe
that the extra alertness
will translate
into advanced learning
at a critical time.

(The years before age 6
when many experts agree
that 90% of a child's
lifetime knowledge is gained.)

How does the Cradle do this?

I understand it has a computer?

Yes.

The Cradle also has a large built in speaker
that plays intra-uterine sounds.

A motor that moves the cradle
in a pelvis like motion similar
to a mother walking.

A tactile bolster
that holds the baby softly
like the pressure
within the womb of the mother.

Movement and sound is controlled
by a computer which varies
the volume of sound,
amount and timing of movements.

Over the 16 weeks after birth
the sound and movement
are phased out leaving the baby
prepared for other environments.

Q. How do I know this isn't just a fad?

A. Experimental models have been tested
for the last 10 years.

A. Much has been written
on the dangers of birth trauma
and over-stressing
and over-stimulation of infants.

A. What we have already seen
is calmer parents
because their children cry less,
sleep longer and spend more time
smiling and alert.

Relaxed rested parents
like these babies.

or the telephone of a parent
who is using the cradle call.

Extra

I wanted the best possible start
for my twin grandchildren
and two grand nieces.

Giving these babies a $600.00
better start in life
is more important than
100 presents or college tuition
I could give them.

I believe that the gift
of a better start at life
and learning has been
more important than anything else
that I could have done for them.

CP FILM MAKING
FILM COPY

You're looking
at a very a special environment
where over 99 percent
of the students are successful.

Accelerated a opens the door
to excitement
adventure,
drama,
the rest of the world.
------------

EDUCATION

Many students are locked
into a small
narrow world,
knowing only that
which is right at hand.

Teachers counsel,
advise and manage
a very effective
motivational system.

Students learn
perhaps for the first time
the enjoyment of learning
without competition
from other students.
------------

RATIO OF 1 TEACHER
FOR EVERY 7 STUDENTS

Records kept since 1964
show that the average student
makes a one year gain
in a subject
in only 37 hours.

This means that students
can accelerate and catch up
or go ahead of
their regular classes.
-------------

Motivation
is a basic requisite
for any kind of activity
and especially learning.

Certified teachers carefully
prescribe and monitor
the correct materials
for each student.

We have just begun
to scratch the surface.

The key is motivation.

1960'S INFORMERCIAL
ON THE LEARNING SYSTEM

Script by Carl Peterson

Produced with technical assistance
from Bennet Productions

Format:

Interview with Carl Peterson
with cuts to shots
of the school under voiceovers
by Carl Peterson.

The interviewer was the head
of the International
Reading Association.

Content:

The importance of school's
rewards and learning contracts
for achieving success.

The students only received
rewards if they made
the contracted grade gain.

The school set-up was
described by Carl Peterson
over shots of the classroom
with students working
in individual study carrels.

Emphasis was placed
on the student/teacher ratio
(1:7),
and on the use
of state-of-the-art
self-directed study curricula.

The process for progress-checks
was outlined.

These occurred every
15 to 20 minutes,
allowing problems
to be spotted quickly.

If the student made
satisfactory progress,
he or she was awarded
a prescribed number tokens.

If the students completed
a learning task ahead
of schedule with high quality,
extra tokens were given.

Students could spend
their tokens
in the game room
or for snacks.

This point was illustrated
by shots of students
in the game room.

Motivating students to learn
was discussed
with an overview
of the school's
motivation system.

Carl Peterson then described
the steps in each
student's program,
beginning with testing
and diagnosis.

The program for involving parents
also was described.

The infomercial ended
with an invitation
for viewers to call
for more information.

1992 SENIOR PROM

The class of 1992
celebrated their graduation
with a Senior Prom
at the Wiltshire Inn
on May 2, 1992.

In a banquet room decorated
with white table cloths,
festive balloons
and flashing lights,
the formally dressed students
danced to music ranging
from Nineties hip-hop
to ballads from the Sixties.

The faster dances were
especially popular
though the romantic types
went for the slow dances.

The evening was capped off
by the crowning of three kings
and three queens.

They represented
the main and north campuses
and the class as a whole.

MY INTRODUCTION TO CHINESE

1st time

I tried out
half the words.

The sounds
were very strange to me.

I was afraid
to say the words.

Second half

I asked for the volume
to be turned up.

I tried out
most of the words.

Second try

I chorused
with two other teachers.

I was about
70 percent accurate.

Many words sounded ok.

3rd try

Loud

With one other
first time person.

I was over
85 percent accurate.

Total of 7 to 9 minutes
for the 3 tries.

Total phrase pronunciations
90 to 120?

Conclusions

I think others
are similarly afraid.

Need loudness
need group inclusion
to limit fears
of embarrassment.

I am now optimistic
about trying new lists.
